The Phoenix Company’s 2026 Calendar, Fortunet(re)ellers, traces the tree as a motif in different moments of our lives. The tree is integral to the physical, psychological, social, emotional, financial, environmental and spiritual well-being of us humans. Trees are indispensable parts of our journey on Earth and yet, somewhere we seemed to have thought otherwise. Greed has us replacing canopies with concrete and the irony is that now we go looking for ‘retreats in nature’ and ‘farmhouses away from the city’. One wonders if the only way out is to play the game in a way that appeals to us. 

Playing on this notion, the calendar seeks to ask the viewer one pertinent question – ‘Would human beings make a more conscious effort to save trees if their fortune cookies told them it would work in their favour?’ If we were told that money would pour in or promotions would be guaranteed if a tree is protected, would we act differently? If we were told our loved one’s health would improve if we spoke up against development projects at the cost of the environment, would we do it? We most probably would. 

The calendar goes a step further and also urges the viewer to consider the weight of an emotional connect when it comes to making a choice. Be it sharing lunches under the Jacaranda or finding peace beneath the Peepal, trees have remained a silent witness to our most personal moments. Would we therefore, go the extra mile to save the trees that have forged an intangible bond with us?

Combining both these facets, the calendar brings to you 12 vibrant gouache paintings that rekindle memories with the trees in our lives. Each visual is accompanied by a fortune cookie message that makes us rethink and reevaluate the decisions we make.
